More than 90 golfers took part in the Oakglen (formerly Oakbridge) sponsored Harry Vardon golf challenge organised by Jersey Heritage.
The event at the Royal Jersey Golf Club celebrated the legacy of local golfing legend Harry Vardon and raised more than £20,000 for Jersey Heritage. The funds will go towards the charity’s vision to share the Island’s story.
Jamie Crawford, Group Head of Wealth Management for Oakglen (formerly Company Director at Oakbridge), said: ‘We were so lucky the weather provided the perfect day and it was an honour to be a part of celebrating Harry Vardon’s amazing achievements. We are so pleased the event will leave another legacy in raising so much for Jersey Heritage and their projects.’
Harry Vardon grew up on what is now the 12th fairway of the golf course and went on to travel the world, touring America and winning the US Open in 1900.
He recognised the importance of his story to the people of Jersey and when he died in 1937, his medals and clubs were left to Jersey Heritage and remain an important part of the collections that they care for.
Harry’s medals were on display in the Vardon Bar, during the event which coincided with the 150th Open at St Andrews.
